anyones favorite? March 19, 2012

are you the favorite of someone?!  now there’s an intriguing question.  here’s a short film to help you dig a lil deeper.  honestly, i wish this film was longer and “interviewed” more people.  maybe i’ll stand on the street someday and ask random people this question myself.  i’m really curious!

truth about action March 17, 2012

don’t get me wrong, i love action films.  they’re actually one of my favorite types of movies.  however, this picture clearly depicts the truth about the majority of action films.  and honestly, it’s getting a bit old.  at times it seems like the villains are shooting with their eyes closed!  but i guess it wouldn’t be a good movie if the hero died right away, huh?  oh well!  that’s what i get for being a realist…

old notes February 19, 2012

I was going through my old notes from when I was watching a ton of documentaries about a year ago….. Ya, I think I was really missing being in school, listening to lectures, taking notes, and reviewing them…. Anyways, I was watching documentaries about food, nutrition, water bottles, etc.  Health and nutrition are very important to me and I love learning everything I can about the topics.  I think that our society deprives children of proper education about how to take care of their bodies inside and out and parents aren’t setting good examples themselves.  However, it’s also difficult in these times to afford healthy food, because it seems like the better the food is for you, the more expensive it gets.  And why does it seem like everything is processed and packaged these days?!  Furthermore, why does everyone blow so much money on waterbottles when there’s the tap or a britta filter!?  While growing up, my dentist actually recommended our family to drink the tap water cuz it contains floride that would help with our teeth!  So I never understood the concept of water bottles; just grab a cup and pour your own water?!  However, I’ve learned in the past that using water bottles is a cultural thing, mostly from living in places where the water was undrinkable before moving to the US.  But I was surprised to find out what I did about the process of bottling water.

If you ever wanna stike up a conversation with me about these topics I’d love to chat with you!  But for now, here are my notes.

Fast food = fiberless food

low fat = high sugar

you are not what you eat (maybe not?!) – you are what you do with what you eat

the biggest predictor of health is income level

indirectly oppressing the poor

the food and exercise choices you make directly affect your life

obesity is a crime to the body

think: quantity vs quality

burn fuel (gasoline) to make (send across state) fuel, so buy local (farmers markets)

unhealthy food = cheap

less money you have = more calories you eat

kids now-a-days only leave the house to go to school, they don’t play outside

not even exercise at school anymore

bottled water costs more than gasoline

we want everything individualized, convenient, and easy to toss

healthy… not healthy?… tap?

companies take our own water and sell it back to us

coke and pepsi use tap water

PET bottles causing cancer (from plastic) to users and those living by the factories (erin brockovich-like)

toluene, styrene, phthalate

reassuring nurse September 19, 2011

my partner and i were admitting our pt into a psych facility and we overheard the nurse’s conversation with another pt

nurse: why are you in here?

pt: i wanted to jump off a building

nurse: oh wow.  have you ever committed suicide before?

(i’m thinking “are you serious!?!?!!  and my partner was thinking the same thing)

the pt had a puzzled look and stated: uh… no.  but i’ve attempted (and then showed the cuts on their forearm)

hello nurse!!!!  your pt would NOT be standing in front of you if they committed suicide!  ha ha… wow, that’s reassuring

when it rains, it pours June 30, 2011

to top off my roller coaster ride of tummy pain, allergy season just kicked in!  nothings says summer quite like a sinus infection!  then, i got this gnarly bacterial eye infection while at work the other night.  my left eye swelled up and was gooping out neon green gunk.  it was so gross.  and my eyes turned BRIGHT red, like fire-engine red!!  my partners kept informing me on how bad i looked, they’re so kind!  so i’m contagiously gross right now, and unable to work.  i also can’t wear my contacts cuz i have to put in antibiotic eye drops, and i don’t have eye glasses with the right Rx, so i’m kickin it at home cuz i can’t see beyond 10 feet.  but things could be worse, right?!

mixed tapes June 11, 2011

yes, i call mixed CDs mixed tapes.  i guess it’s just out of habit cuz i made real mixed tapes as a kid.  my friend adriana and i would always make one for each other when we knew we’d see each other.

if you’ve ever made me a mixed tape, i still have it!  i love mixed tapes!  whoever made the mixed tape took the time to think about what i’ll like that they also like.  and you can say a lot through mixed tapes!  mixed tapes can tell a story about the person they’re giving it to, or perhaps shine some light on the relationship that they’re in with that person.  or, sadly, someone thinks your taste in music sucks so they make you a mixed tape hoping to save you from your poor music choices.

i hope you’re all aware of the mixed tape rule.  when you listen to it for the first time, you have to listen to it all the way through in one sitting!  i don’t care if you’ve heard the song before, or if you don’t like the song.  tough.  suck it up!  someone just made you a mixed tape for crying out loud!  it would only be disrespectful to not listen to it straight at least once.

i’m making some mixed tapes right now!  that’s why it’s on my mind

pinback May 30, 2011

a couple of weeks ago i got to see pinback in concert!  they’re an indie rock band from san diego and they have a very unique sound.  when i first heard them i couldn’t get enough, and played the one CD i had from my friend over and over for weeks at a time.  since they’ve been playing for almost as long as i’ve been alive they have quite the collection of albums.  and to my surprise they played multiple songs from each album!  the venue wasn’t too spectacular, but the music was superb!  please enjoy my favorite song from them!

chocolate mint May 18, 2011

i don’t like the combo of chocolate and mint together… why?!  cuz when i was younger the dentist would always use chocolate mint flavored polish on my teeth.  and i have, and probably always will, HATE going to the dentist!  so, therefore i relate chocolate mint to the dreadfulness of the dentist.  mint chip ice cream, yuck!! york peppermint patties, disgusting! thin mint girl scout cookies, no way!  however, every now and then i’ll have an ande’s mint, but they’re definitely not my favorite candy.

REALization May 11, 2011

i realized something at work the other day…. there’s no old “fat” people.

                                                                             think about it.
